# Sidecars MCP server

> Connect Claude, Cursor, Codex or any MCP client to a Sidecars workspace: one URL, OAuth sign-in, and tools for the workspace's knowledge, documents, pages and comments.

Sidecars is one AI workspace for your whole company: your team and its agents
work from the same context, in shared folders, sessions and documents.

The Sidecars MCP server lets the agents you already use work inside that
workspace. It is a remote [Model Context Protocol](https://modelcontextprotocol.io)
server with a single URL. A host such as Claude Code, Claude.ai, Cursor, VS
Code, Codex, ChatGPT, Windsurf or Zed connects, signs in once with OAuth, and
then acts as the signed-in person inside one workspace.

## Choose your path

> **[Browse first](/tools.md)**
>
> The tool catalogue is public. See what an agent can do before signing in.

> **[Connect and sign in](/connect.md)**
>
> Paste the URL into your host, sign in, pick a workspace. No API keys.

> **[Read the reference](/reference/documents.md)**
>
> Every parameter, returned field and error, derived from the server.

Once connected, `npx skills add https://docs.sidecars.ai` installs the two
[agent skills](/skills.md) that teach an agent how to work on documents and
write plans here.

## What an agent can do

* Search the workspace knowledge base, or ask it a question and get a sourced
  answer.
* List, read, create and edit shared documents while people edit them live.
  Writes are checkpointed and undoable.
* Create and rewrite HTML pages under a version check.
* Read, add and resolve comment threads, including anchored quotes.
* Export a document, page or table to a file.
* Mount documents as `sidecars://document/<id>` resources.

Everything an agent does shows up in the app as the person who connected,
labelled with the host that acted (for example "Thomas · via Claude Code"),
and in the same audit history as in-app agent activity.
